Following two terms in parliament, Fiona takes some time with the Forum to reflect on her many successes on important drug policy issues.
Fiona lead a wide-ranging inquiry into drug law reform, resulting in a 650 page document with 50 recommendations for parliament, just one of several inquiries on drug law and policy issues. During Fiona’s term, Melbourne finally began to address injecting drug use and dependence issues with an eye toward health and human rights, while also opening the greenhouse door to much needed medical cannabis access.
Fiona will share stories of success, alongside the many challenges of working for better drug policies in a complex and often emotionally charged area.
