Perceptions of crime rates and justice don’t always match the reality of everyday life.

We live in a relatively safe society, but alarmist media can cause genuine fear, and that can change the way we interact with each other.

Dr Karen Gelb, Consultant Criminologist and lecturer at the University of Melbourne will discuss the interaction between public opinion, crime and justice in modern Australia and draw some implications for harm reduction.
